Deep Tissue Between Flights

The studio sits about ten minutes from SLC International. What a long flight leaves behind, and how to fit an hour on a table around a connection.

Salt Lake City International sits unusually close to the middle of its city. Our studio at 677 S 200 W is roughly ten minutes from the terminals, which turns an hour on a table into something you can actually do around a flight rather than an idea you abandon at the gate.

Be clear on what that does not mean. We are downtown. We are not inside the airport and not attached to a hotel beside it. You need a ride each way, and you need to be honest with yourself about the clock. Under three hours on the ground is too tight once the return trip through security is counted. Four hours works. A night in town works comfortably.

What sitting still for hours leaves behind is specific rather than vague. Shoulders held forward shorten the front of the chest and leave the upper back braced in a position it never agreed to. Hips stiffen from folding at one angle for a long time. The neck takes the worst of it, particularly if you slept against a window. And if one shoulder carried a bag through three terminals, that side of you will be noticeably worse than the other by the time you lie down.

Deep tissue suits that pattern because it works slowly through particular areas instead of passing evenly over the whole body. Say where you flew in from, how long you were in the seat, and which arm carried the weight. That is more useful to a therapist than it sounds.

Sixty minutes is $85, ninety is $125, two hours is $165. If you want more depth than the session is giving you, ask for it and nothing changes on the bill. Pressure is a conversation here rather than a tier you buy into.

Hours are what make the whole idea practical. We take clients from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week, so an evening landing is not a write-off. Down at seven, here by eight, on a table not long after. A late departure the following day is the best case this page has to offer.

A few logistics that matter more when you are arriving from elsewhere. Parking at the building costs nothing, which helps with a rental car. Card payments carry a five dollar processing fee and cash carries none. Both male and female therapists work here, so state a preference when you book. Sheets and coverings are changed and sanitized after every client, which is a reasonable thing to want confirmed in a city you do not know.

Same-day often works and is never promised, and travel raises the cost of guessing wrong, because a wrong guess is a wasted ride each way. Call (801) 288-1118 when you land, or better, from your departure city the day before.

One last piece of advice, learned from people who cut it fine. Leave more margin at the end than you think you need. Good deep tissue work leaves you slow, and slow is the opposite of what a security line rewards.
